The Lives of Others arrives at the Adelphi Theatre in a strictly limited run from 14 October 2026, bringing a powerful new stage adaptation of the Oscar-winning story to London. About The Lives of Others

Written and directed by Olivier Award winner Robert Icke (Oedipus, Oresteia, Romeo & Juliet), this stage adaptation is based on Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck’s acclaimed 2007 film. It examines state control, artistic freedom and the political power of storytelling, reframed for the stage with Icke’s signature intensity and psychological focus.

Set in East Germany under the Stasi regime, the story follows a writer and actor placed under constant surveillance, with their lives dissected from an attic listening post. As observation deepens, moral boundaries begin to shift, raising urgent questions about power, empathy and complicity.
